Sprouts School is a small, neighborhood-based, nature-based, licensed preschool run by Sprouting Curiosity Collective in partnership with Sunset Ridge Collective.

We are a neighborhood, nature based school, spending significant time outside.

  • Our curriculum is organized around nature and science-based learning. We will talk about plants in the fall and animals in the spring. Our units consist of topics such as what a plant needs, carnivores and herbivores, signs of wildlife and more.

  • We value scientific literacy, so we try to use scientific thinking and language with the students, valuing their ability to problem solve and observe the world around them. For example, we ask the kids to make hypotheses about their observations - “What is your hypothesis about what that worm is doing?”

  • We engage in risky play and sensory play because we know that both of those types of play help kids to increase their executive functioning, and resilience in their bodies, minds and spirits.

  • We are located in the Terrell Heights Neighborhood and regularly walk to the parks, gardens, and businesses in our neighborhood.

  • Your engagement in our collectives (Sprouting Curiosity Collective and Sunset Ridge Collective) helps us to shape who we are and how we engage with the world. We try to learn from every family that learns with us.

We have a ‘learning through play’ philosophy.

  • People, and particularly young children, learn best through play.

  • We engage in deep, authentic learning. With a recycled art center, the kids use the supplies however they want, to create whatever they want. Our shelves are filled with a wide variety of supplies, such as dice, magnetic letters, and learning mats, that students often think of as games.

We believe in building relationships.

  • We build relationship in nature by spending time in nature with trusted teachers in all kinds of weather.

  • We build relationship between teachers, children and parents.

  • We vote. Everyone’s voice is included in our decision making and the best way to do that is the power of the vote. Everyone’s voice matters.

Sprouts School follows a traditional school calendar with a Fall and Spring semester.

A limited number of spots are available for the current school year. Please submit the “I’m interested!” form for more information about the 24/25 school year.

General enrollment for the 25/26 school year opens March 1, 2024.

Week long summer camps are offered June-August.
